How a weighted grade is calculated
Each grade is multiplied by its weight, the results are added up, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights:
grade = (g₁×w₁ + g₂×w₂ + …) ÷ (w₁ + w₂ + …)
Because the calculator divides by the weights you actually entered, they don't have to add up to 100. If only 70% of the course has been graded, you get your grade on that 70%, which is the number most teachers and portals show mid-semester.
Worked example
Homework 92% (weight 20), quizzes 85% (weight 20), midterm 78% (weight 30).
92×20 + 85×20 + 78×30 = 1,840 + 1,700 + 2,340 = 5,880
5,880 ÷ (20 + 20 + 30) = 5,880 ÷ 70 = 84.0% (B)

Frequently asked questions
Do my weights have to add up to 100%?
No. The calculator divides by the total weight you entered, so weights of 20, 20 and 30 give your grade on the 70% of the course graded so far. You can also enter weights like 1, 2 and 3; only their proportions matter.
Can I enter letter grades or points instead of percentages?
Yes. Type 92, B+ or 45/50 in the grade box. Points are converted to a percentage. A letter counts as the middle of its range (B+ = 88.5%, A = 95%), and an F counts as 50%. If you know the exact percentage, use it for a more accurate result.
What happens if I leave the weights blank?
If no row has a weight, every graded row counts equally and you get a simple average. If some rows have weights and others don't, rows without a weight are left out and the result tells you how many were skipped.
Why is my result different from my school portal?
The usual reasons are rounding (some teachers round 89.5 up to 90), different letter cut-offs, a dropped lowest score, or a class that uses total points instead of weighted categories. For a points-based class, enter each category as points earned/points possible and use the points possible as the weight.
